Spine and corners bumped.
Ever since she was a very small girl, Roberta Carey had lived with her guardian, an artist, in his little Cornish cottage overlooking the sea. But when he married, his wife decided that it was time Bobby was sent away to school - and so Bobby made up her mind that she would never like Hill House School, especially as it was far away in London.
For a time it seemed that she would keep her vow, but a new headmistress worked wonders in the school and from settling down and making new friends at Hill house, Bobby gradually grew to like and understand her guardian’s wife.
Helen Barlow has written an introduction about new headmistresses and schools.
