Dr. Harriet Gore has a big heart.
Returning to London after 10 years’ medical research in the wilds of Asia, she finds Guiding in crisis and morale at a low ebb. But this woman in her fifties, not at all glamorous (an old tweed jacket belted round a stocky waist, a brown felt hat pulled low over cropped grey hair) puts new heart into Guides wherever she goes. Seeking out her former Guides she is greeted with delight and affection. All in their own way have cause to bless her gruff kindness and sturdy common sense as she brings them together again and helps them sort out their lives. Originally published in 1941.
