Spine and corners bumped. Rubbing to edges. Spine and covers creased. Spine and covers partially faded by the sun.

Susan and Friends is the essential companion to a Jane Shaw collection — or an ideal introduction to the work of this increasingly popular 20th-century author.

Gathered here are published short stories by Jane Shaw (the pen name of Jean Evans, née Patrick), including four about her most famous heroine Susan Lyle, as well as unpublished stories from the author's personal archives, which have now been deposited in the National Library of Scotland.

Accompanying Jane Shaw's own words are critical essays on the books and their settings by Rosemary Auchmuty (author of A World of Girls), Beverley Garmston, Alison Lindsay, Eva Löfgren and Polly Whibley, and a fascinating account by Ian Evans of the family friends to whom many of his mother's books were dedicated.

Susan and Friends is edited by Alison Lindsay, who has spent several years researching Jane Shaw's life and writings. Fully illustrated.
