Mindy's father comes back from abroad, bringing a new wife, Aunt Sarah, and her little boy. Aunt Sarah is very ill when she arrives, and she is just able to say to Mindy, "Take care of David."
David is small and lonely, and Mindy loves taking care of him; he is always quiet and good with her, thought naughty with everyone else. Mindy has so much grown-up praise for this that she stops thinking of what is best for David, and thinks of what is most glorious for Mindy. And she does a very dreadful thing.
