A story of the Canadian children of English parents, on a frujit farm in the valley of the Okanagan Lake in British Columbia. On Roger and Syliva, the eldest, falls the main management of the estate, since their widowed mother has not been able altogether to fit herself into the Canadian scene. The younger children are already at home in the Dominion melting-pot. At their school sports the "boys and girls of twenty races laughed and chattered together as if bombing 'planes were unknown and all were brothers."
Each individual of the family has personal problems to face, and when the cherry crop is ruined by rain Doris commits herself and the others to entertaining a family of "dudes" or holiday boarders. A whole aspect of British Columbian life comes clearly through the incidents of this attractive story.
