The Long Winter

1968 edition. Illustrated by Garth Williams

Spine and corners bumped. Spine and covers creased. Spine torn and worn. Inside covers and pages browning.

'Heap big snow come,' an old Indian warned the white men, so they knew it would be a hard winter. For seven whole months Laura and her family were cut off in their little town, all alone on the frozen endless prairie, with the blizzards howling outside. No trains could reach them to bring oil for the lamps, fuel for the stove, or food to feed them till the spring. But Pa was still brave.

'We'll be right here when spring comes!' he said. And they were.
