St Githa’s, the School on the Moor, is closing unexpectedly, the headmistress is getting married and moving to New Zealand, and all pupils who want to are being transferred to Thatches, a school run by a friend of hers. How the ‘Githites’ adjust to the ways of another school, become friends with its pupils and discover the delights of a woodland rather than a moorland area, and in particular how Toby adapts to being a boarder rather than a day girl, make a most enjoyable story. But there is more – a mystery is woven into the plot and adds to the excitement of Toby and her friends.
Chris Keyes has written an introductory article on the location of The School in the Woods and Clarissa Cridland has written further about the Ark of the Covenant.
The book has a full colour frontispiece and six full page black and white line drawings.
